Privacy policy
Enc is designed to protect your privacy as much as possible. Therefore, nothing that can be linked to you personally, such as an IP address, is stored.
How is the message stored?
When you encrypt a message, it will be stored in a file named {UUID}.json, where UUID is the unique ID of the message. A second file is also created, containing the following information. The file name for this file is {UUID}-status.json.
created: When the message was created. This information is used to determine when the status file should be deleted.expires: When the message should expire. If you have selected "Immediately after opening", the value for this will be empty.read: When the message was read by the recipient or recipients.
7 days after the message was created, the status file is deleted. The message itself is deleted based on what the sender has chosen: immediately, after 1, 2, 12, or 24 hours, or after 2 days.
What encryption method is used?
Enc uses Web Crypto JS to encrypt messages using AES-GCM. The message is encrypted in the browser and sent to the server, where it awaits retrieval by the recipient or recipients.
I want to immerse myself in source code
You can delve into the source code at codeberg.org/airikr/enc.
- func-endecrypt.js handles encryption and decryption.
- save.php is called via index.js when an encrypted message is to be stored on the server.
- read.php is called via page-read.js when a message is to be decrypted.
Any suggestions for improvement are welcome.
The goal of Enc, is to be secure and useful in situations where chat services fail. Simplicity is the next priority after security.
